Carlos Bazán
Oaxaca (1993)

He is an artist from the Chocholtec generational lineage. A true son of the landscape in its fullest sense: language, culture, aridity, song, color, thorny jungle, nopaleras and magueyes.

At the age of 15, he joined the House of Culture of San Pedro y San Pablo Teposcolula, where he was guided by master Enrique Martorell. Since then, like a bird in flight, he has taken off to become a pictographic spokesperson for his culture and roots.

From the wind: the source and vision to shape his own technique, a secret whisper that came from afar. The rain granted him the purity that gives life to the plains, where countless magical beings dance: a land of nahuales. And from the earth, he found colors and living matter to carve his path, his vision of the universe.

Bazán has held 32 solo exhibitions and participated in 98 group exhibitions. His work has been displayed in various venues across Mexico, as well as in Barcelona, Paris, and cities in the United States. Moreover, his art is part of multiple public and private collections.

In January 2020, he was invited to paint the artwork for the American television series Party of Five, and his work was featured on billboards in places such as Times Square in New York and various locations in Los Angeles, California.

Carlos Bazán Ramos is an artist devoted to painting and interpreting light, color, shapes, hugs, skulls, and even gazes, elements that suddenly converge within a single painting. For the artist, the intensely human and the earthily natural can never be antagonistic. In the universe of the Chocholtec painter, both coexist in a harmony that finds balance with the cosmic.

Born in Mexico City in 1982 and currently residing in the state of Hidalgo. From a young age, he showed a strong inclination for drawing, which over the years led him to study Graphic Design. However, he found his true passion in the visual arts, focusing primarily on oil painting, the technique in which he has developed the most. He also pursued studies in cultural management at the University of Guadalajara. In 2022, he was included in Forbes magazine's list of "The 100 Most Creative Mexicans in the World."

His work is part of private collections in Mexico, the United States, Spain, Colombia, Nicaragua, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Statement:

Much of my work reflects my sarcastic and simplistic sense of humor. Currently, my fascination with Mexican multiculturalism drives me to combine a variety of perspectives that allow me to create a new interpretation of Mexican identity and its elements. I portray them from an unreal perspective, detached from their usual context, experimenting with the possibilities of a world where all these elements and characters coexist, grow, and evolve.

For some years now, I have enjoyed setting aside brushes and applying paint directly with my fingers, gradually shifting from detailed imagery to expressive strokes and color. This approach allows me to "expand" my ideas and visions more freely, making the creative process even more meaningful.
